We can't grant permission for third-party SomaFM clients or applications, even noncommercial ones.

Our music licensing agreements don't permit us to authorize third-party uses of our streams, branding, artwork, or metadata in standalone applications. In addition, anyone operating such an application could potentially become subject to music licensing obligations (BMI, SESAC, SoundExchange, etc.), which carry annual minimum fees that can be several thousand dollars per organization.

We're also intentionally trying to limit additional public exposure. Unlike many public radio stations, increased listening has historically not translated into increased listener support for us, while it does increase our royalty costs. As a result, we're not approving new third-party clients.

We have a small number of longstanding exceptions for general-purpose radio tuner applications that predate this policy, but we're not adding new ones.
