Meanwhile have a look at KDE Connect. One part of it is media control (start, stop, skip, volume,...) -
KDE connect works.
But you cannot select or change to a playlist.play/pause and volume control work

Would it be possible to make Strawberry compatible with Clementine Remote on Android. Then I could really let go off Clementine ....

Who was the developer of the android app for Clementine? Maybe it is possible to persuade the developer to come to the Strawberry project...

The main blocker for me for adding it back is lack of contributors.
We need more developers who can contribute to fixing bugs, issues and general maintenance stuff. Otherwise I'm stuck with everything, even features I'm not interested in, and don't use, which means that it is more likely something will be broken.
If I was to add the networkremote code back, it takes some effort since a lot of things have changes in Strawberry. Right now, it will also be mostly me who is stuck answering and fixing any issues reported by users, and I don't want it to end up like Clementine, over 2000 issues and no-one responding to them.
I'm personally not interested in an Android remote.
The original android remote is in Java and was written by one of the clementine contributors (
Andreas Muttscheller), he has not been active with Clementine development since 2016.
The main author of Clementine and most of the contributors has not been active since 2016. I doubt they even use Clementine anymore, because at least then they would bother to fix the most critical bugs. So I doubt it will be much point in contacting any of them. A more likely possibility is announcing Strawberry somewhere and getting interest from new developers.
I don't know Java programming, and have no interest in learning it either.
There is another better alternative, a newly written remote in C++/QML:. It need some work, but the basics is there: https://github.com/mbruel/ClementineRemote
I e-mailed the author, but my conclusion is that it's too much work for me right now, and the author of the remote wasn't interested in becoming a regular contributor to Strawberry. -

I use the KDE Connect, so it Just Works for me.
Rather than a separate app, I wonder if it would be more feasible to support one of the standards out there. If I understand it correctly, wouldn't making Strawberry a DLNA Renderer make it possible to use any of the DLNA apps to control it remotely?

I've never tried the KDE connect thing but I'm guessing that it uses MPRIS2 to Strawberry and also have a service running which listens to a port which then function as a received on the computer which again the Android remote connects to.
All such remotes which uses standard MPRIS2 will function with Strawberry.

The purpose of having a custom remote specifically for the Strawberry like Clementine does is to manage all features of the player, not just basic play/stop/pause, etc. It won't be compatible with other audio players. -
I know this is an old thread, but I just installed KDE connect on Linux Mint and Android, and it works perfect for what I need.
I have control of pause, play, fast-forward or reverse, previous or next song and shuffle on or off. That is all I need.
