EQ doesn't seem to work on Ubuntu 20.04 + tidal hifi + bluetooth LDAC + sony wh-1000xm4

Got tidal hifi hooked up via strawberry and LDAC bluetooth to my newly acquired headphones.
very nice!!! HIFI to linux! you folks rock!
the EQ seems to have no effect with this setup. i tried all sorts of settings but they don't seem to have effect.
any ideas?
is a restart required?

@arooni The equalizer settings will only be applied once you check the enabled checkbox before starting playback.
