Audio CD and device support is not available on Windows.
-
Hi guys
I am new and was looking to compare this player to say foobar but notice the following Audio CD and device support is not available on Windows. why exactly? -
@mjmusicguy
Because it doesn't work and I haven't figured out why. -
Maybe I can help with some testing I have a software QA background plus id really switch if that was working anything I can do to help let me know
many other FOSS projects have cd support
Audacious for example
https://github.com/audacious-media-player/audacious so its a shame that strawberry as powerful as strawberry lacks a much needed feature -
@mjmusicguy
I made a guide to get Visual Studio 2019 set up with strawberry:
https://github.com/strawberrymusicplayer/strawberry-msvc
It uses the official binaries from Qt and gstreamer, but you need to compile a few libraries manually.
I addition to those mentioned in the guide you need to compile libcdio and compile gst-plugins-bad with libcdio manually as gstreamer does not provide binaries.
Prepare to spend at least 1-2 days to get it set up depending on your experience. -
@jonas I rgibk its more important i understand the exacr behaver of what fies wrong?

Ah I see however that bug was not cery clear does it work with 10 at all?
because it looks like clementine had no issues and was last updated in 2016 around the time 10 came out maybe start there? -
there has to a easier way hmm what i can do is volunteer to qa test anything you may come up with that's easy for windows users. i see no reason to support windows
10 anymore at this point either . when was the last time you tinkered? -
On the second comment in the issue I linked to, I'm describing what's failing. So yes, it's not working at all. There is no need for QA before it's fixed. All you need to do to test it yourself is to enable the open CD option in the menu. I have no plans to look into the issue again which is why I have disabled it, closed the issue and listed it as not supported in the features for Windows. To fix it or look into the issue you need to at least have a Windows PC setup up with a development environment, a debugger and a CD drive which is why I sent you the guide. It's on the bottom of the my TODO list. It's simply not a priority for me considering that most users aren't using strawberry for playing CD's. There are too many others things that needs to be done.
Windows 10 is supported by Microsoft until 2025. All the libraries we use still work with Windows 10. Binaries can be built to work on both Windows 10 and 11 so there isn't more work to support 10. A ton of users are still on Windows 10. I see no reason to drop support for Windows 10 at this point. So I don't know how you came to that conclusion.
