Hi, sorry but i am just a poor little man. I just wanted to make a small contribution of 5 Canadian dollars (CAD $) or so. An almost symbolic, one-time donation via PayPal. I don't even know where Jonas Kvinge lives, so i tried to send US dollars (USD $). But i got discouraged when i saw there was a conversion fee. I cancelled. I was thinking, what if there was i conversion fee on the other end too? Example: i send 5$ CAD - 3$ fee ≅ 1.50$ USD - 2€ fee = some negative result when reconverted to euro (€).

Which currency should i send via PayPal: $ CAD, or $ USD, or € euro ? or other ?

Of course, i asked these questions on PayPal first, but they answered with instructions on how to move that mouse, reach that button, and click on it... LOL !

Ah, okay, i had a discussion on PayPal messages, and searched on their website. And i also made some dummy, cancelled sending for testing purposes. So, now i guess i am starting to be just a bit less messed up.

I got mixed up with conversion fees versus transaction fees. The conversion fees seems to be reasonably small. If i send 10 $ CAD it gets converted to 7.54 $ USD. That's a 0.37 $ USD fee or so. No big deal. But the PayPal transaction fee is much heavier. That's my problem. Apparently, there is a 3 to 4 $ CAD extra charge because i only have my credit card linked to PayPal, not my bank account. Again, that's just my problem. I could possibly try with my bank account, but later. For now, i will just go with my PayPal account, linked to my credit card, and end up paying 14,11 $ CAD to send 8,00 $ USD. Now done !

Still, maybe it would be nice to know what currency Jonas Kvinge would prefer. But that doesn't seems to be very important. That's just an extra mouse click and a few cents lost in conversion fees.

Ah, okay, now i found some more precise information, crawling into this PayPal labyrinth.

So, i logged into my PayPal account, then clicked:
Send and Request > Fees (at the bottom of the page) > Sending and receiving

And i finally got onto this page:
          https://www.paypal.com/webapps/mpp/paypal-fees

This looks quite complex for someone who is not passionate about PayPal transactions... There are many different cases: commercial or personal, foreign or domestic, bank account or bank card or credit card...

So, here in my case today, i did it this way:

Sending international personal transactions > Europe or USA (i guess ?)
Payment method: Cards (credit card here)
Rate: 2.99 CAD + 2.90% + fixed fee (fixed fee: a small 0.35 EUR or 0.30 USD or similar)

          ● ● ●

Maybe i could have considered this a commercial transaction ?

When «Buying with PayPal», there is «NO FEE», except... a currency conversion fee of about 4%... And i think i remember reading somewhere else that the "merchant" would have to pay something... So, in doubt, i didn't do it this way! Anyway, i don't even know if that was possible or not, in this case !?

Sorry for all this big load of information. I am also writing this for myself, to remember all this next time... Well, at least i did finally make my small one-time contribution 🙂

My understanding is that the fee isn't very big, but I will look more into it. Thanks for the donation.
