DSF 6 channel playback channels misdirected

On playing back a 6 channel (5.1) DSF file the channels don't come out the correct speakers. I've tested by converting to flac and playing back in Strawberry and by playing back the DSF in DeadBeef and VLC.
I'm not sure what's going on but the centre channel seems to be coming out the rear left. Other channels are harder to distinguish as they don't feature vocals.
Is this something that afflicts others?
Strawberry 1.0.7 on Ubuntu.
