Error: Device is being used by another application.

Hi, Kubuntu user here and new to Strawberry player and love that it let's me redirect its output to my DAC.
However, I get this error message frequently when selecting a tune from the play list:
Could not open audio device for playback. Device is being used by another application.
Even if you kill strawberry processes (strawberry tagreader) in system monitor it does nothing and I have to log out / in and start fresh.
What process should I be killing, if any? Any ideas?
Thanks
