Disable strict formatting on year field

Strawberry enforces YYYY format for the year field. How do I customize this?
I have given most of my songs the format YYYYMM, but Strawberry straight up ignores it; ignores the MM part. The year column only has the year part. And so does any other location or form field that renders the year field.
If I were to open the CTRL+E menu and save without changes, Strawberry would likely destroy my IDv3 tags.
How can I customize Strawberry to not apply any format to that field?
Alternatively, can you set up custom fields? Question targeted at both: does IDv3 even support custom fields? Could Strawberry display those if it does?

@WoodrowShigeru You might want to consider a field that supports a date, such as ContentCreateDate, to hold that information. I don't believe Strawberry displays it though.
