Can Strawberry handle a huge music library?
-
Up till now, I've been using iTunes/Apple Music mostly on a Mac to keep track of my MP3s. However, as my collection has grown bigger and bigger, I've recently bumped up against the maximum number of songs that iTunes can manage. So now I am looking for an alternative. Can Strawberry handle a huge music library of several hundred thousand songs?

@pross66japan I personally have a big music collection and Strawberry never had problems handling it. But it's "only" dozens of thousands, and not hundred of thousands like you. I don't know if Strawberry has a limit, but you should try to add the folder or folders where you have your collection and see what happens next.

@CherryStraw Good idea. Thanks for the suggestion.

@pross66japan I have over 180,000 songs from 13,600 albums/radio shows in Strawberry without many issues at all, I have managed to crash Strawberry (with the spinning Apple beach ball) a few time when searching for a specific song and not entering the full title but I can not consistently repeat this issue, then it works fine after restarting Strawberry, all in all it it works very well with a large library.

@MarvinTM1 Yes I see an occasional crash here too (Ubuntu Linux in this case), I try to avoid the problem by first restricting the search by date (Added this week) and then open it up to the full library

@rajm
What version of strawberry are you using that's crashing? I've fixed a collection search related crash in the past. -
@jonas It's 1.0.23 I think it crashes less, but I've just locked it up doing a search and immediately another - where just one character of my search string was displayed and system eventually started swapping..
-
@rajm Oh and my library is around 40000 tracks so less than the 100000 used to determine a different method in CollectionFilterWidget::FilterTextChanged

Strawberry can handle a huge music library that doesn't include many great songs and gives people the freedom to choose the songs that suit them.
