Group by folders in the collections section
-
I have my music already organized in folders but when I put my music folder in collections it only shows in a strange and very orthopedic way.
in the settings there are options to group songs by album / artist / blah blah blah, but there is no option to group by folders.
I was looking for a good music player and manager, I need that option to be able to use Strawberry Music Player.
Two things that have nothing to do with the topic of this thread ... a dark mode I would like a lot, and the second is that if it is possible to play compressed files such as 7zip, rar, etc. how does foobar2000 do it?

@bunkhouse I also have my music organized in folders. Each "Artist" has its own folder. Contained in the Artist's folder there is a folder for each album by that artist. In the "album folders" are all the album tracks, each as either an mp3 or flac file.
I came to Strawberry from MusicBee (Windows only) which organized based on "album name" in the tracks' metadata.
Unfortunately I am running Strawberry on a new MacOS laptop which has the new Apple M1 chipset. I am not sure if the problems I'm having are due to my inexperience with Strawberry, MacOS or Strawberry not liking the M1 chip.

@bunkhouse no solution to this still afaik, but wanted to bump this as a feature request

Found this through Google and I've got a solution, as I also have all my music sorted in folders. What you need is mp3tag, and then you need to do this;
- Select 'action' at the top.
- Make a new action.
- Set the values;
Action type: Guess values Source format: %_folderpath% Guessing pattern: %dummy%\%dummy%\%albumartist%\%dummy%
Now the 'albumartist' tag is all set according to whatever the folder name is from 2 levels in. My music is all in F:\Music, so one level down is where all the artist folders are.
Once the group is done, just load your whole music folder, select action at the top again and click on the group you've just made. It'll take a while depending on how big it is. Once done, don't forget to click the blue save icon on the top left to make the changes permanent.
