Possible to not use libgpod?

I have a Ipod nano with Rockbox installed, among other things, this lets me use alot of different types of audio files, not just aac or mp3. Also, it allows a more normal folder structure, I normally store music in /Music/genre/artist. However, I can find no way to edit the config to treat the ipod as a normal mp3 player.
Is this supported at all?
