Getting really fed up of the Patreon aspect.

I'm getting really fed up with the developer using the Patreon platform to sell this software. If it's any good, just sell the damn thing. But to effectively pay for a subscription to a newsletter that might or might not have an update? That's ridiculous.
I paid a $5 amount or whatever it was, thinking I'd get an update. All I got was an email thanking me for that month's contribution. And that email - was the only newsletter. A total rip off.
I like SMP and was willing to pay for updates from time to time, but hiding it behind Patreon means I'll go elsewhere.

@MovingSounds You can always cancel your subscription and wait for the next update to deposit more money, the application will not stop working just because you stopped paying.
Also, I'm going to have to remind you Strawberry Music Player is being developed by an independent programmer who I'm completely sure has a job IRL and the monthly earnings in Patreon are not his main source of income.
In other words, yeah, it kind of sucks that the newest versions are behind a paywall, but considering all the effort, time, and knowledge invested in the software, it's also unfair to ask it for free when it's being developed by a single guy with barely any help from the community.
Additionally, the developer never mentioned there would be a monthly new version, so there's no scam here regarding the Patreon subscriptions. -

I don't understand the problem you have with Patreon as a platform, or is that you expect some updates on the progress as to what is being worked on for the next release? Or is it that it's new releases more often? I have released a new version almost every month, or every second month, the last release was in May, but a new release is in the process, probably in the new few days. -

I made an account just now to say the patreon is very offputting. Dont advertise on the front page of the website that this is free and available on github when the new releases are behind a paywall. If you had a one time fee for lifetime membership, or even if it was free and donation based, I would be so much more inclined to support you. But youre genuinely just lying about your business model and hoping people stay subbed. Im genuinely going to tell people if they find this product not to use it

I thought I bought the player and now I'm being prompted to the same 'Buy for $25' Patreon site for each of two recent upgrades splashed onto my player, or a $7+ /mo. subscription.
I thought I bought the player and I see in posts above that throwing $5 into the hat is laudable, and I agree, but that's not what's on offer.

On the link to each post, you have the option to either buy that specific single post (version of strawberry), or subscribe. Some users insist on not subscribing, so I enable the purchase option with each version, but for me it's desired to have more users support long-term than a single purchase, so I keep the subscription much lower than the price for each post. Unfortunately, the subscribe option is more hidden than the purchase option, this is not something I choose, and I can't change it, it's the way Patreon works.
Send me a private message on Patreon instead and I'm happy to give you a few months free as I have done for others. -
I've found an option I could change to make it easier to understand, now the options look like this:
Anyone who has purchased a single version, I'm happy to give a reduced price for subscription, or a few months free. Anyone who has a problem with the price, I can offer discounts. Send me a private message on Patreon instead of complaining in a public forum.
