I made the move myself a few days ago, and so far I'm pleased with Strawberry, save for an issue that I've mentioned in the "Suggestions" subforum.

I've been using Clementine for many years, and I'm happy to see the revival of the project in Strawberry.

In Clementine, the Unix convention of hiding files starting with a dot was respected. It seems like directories starting with a dot are ignored in Strawberry, while music files starting with a dot in open directories are listed along with everything else.

I would like to see at least an option to ignore files starting with a dot, as I have a whole lot of them in my mysic catalog that I have hidden for some reason.

@rlkeeney I'm talking about a forward slash (/) not a backslash (\), like in Lionel Hampton's "Golden Vibes / Silver Vibes". It's probably the same issue with artist names with slashes in them, like AC/DC (which I don't play).

The problem is that I don't try to create the file, Strawberry does when it downloads a cover and tries to save it in the music folder.

I have set Strawberry to "Save album covers in album directory" with the default pattern %albumartist-%album -- which doesn't work when there's a slash in the album name. Then it just throws up an error message saying something to the effect that the image can't be stored.

This is clearly a bug, and it should be easy to remedy by replacing the slash with another character, like an underscore, before saving.

I'm on Linux, and If I search for a cover for an album where the title contains a slash, I get an error message, and the cover won't save.

This is a general problem with Unixes, where the slash / is the directory separator and about the only invalid character in a file name. Therefore a slash must be replaced by another character, eg an underscore, before Strawberry tries to save a cover.

@jonas I upgraded to 1.0.1 this morning, but I can't see any change. I've rescanned the collection and try to "remove unavailable tracks from playlist", but nothing happens, even if I know that there are hidden tracks there. Do I have to flush the playlist and start over?

@davidsmind It seems like the issue has been resolved - I just installed Clementine 1.4 RC1 from the standard Gentoo repository.

After a month with Strawberry, I'm not that impressed after all. I think that I'll go back toi Clementine for now.

Even if Strawberry's got some nice features compared with Clementine, I can't have my music player playing files that I've deliberately hidden. I listen to a lot of old jazz records in semi-random dynamic playlist mode, much of it "complete" collections with outtakes, false starts, studio discussions and what have you. I hide most of those tracks pretty soon, by putting a dot in the beginning of the file name. That works in Clementine, but obviously not in Strawberry.
