Compile Strawberry with libgpod to access ipod?
-
Hi, I just installed Strawberry on my iMac Catalina in an attempt to get my music files stored on my ipod back to my computer, and then if I can keep Strawberry as an alternative to Apple Music I would be very pleased too ! However when I try to open my ipod from Strawberry, I've got a message saying Strawberry was not compiled with Libgpod and so reading might be very slow and writing could not work. (in French, the exact message is "Ceci est un iPod, mais vous avez compilé Strawberry sans le support libgpod. Si vous continuez, ce périphérique fonctionnera lentement et les morceaux que vous y copiez pourraient ne pas fonctionner."). How can I get the proper compilation of Strawberry ?
Thank you for your answers! -
@nad
The current macOS (0.9.3) release does not have iPod support.
If you want, you can try the latest development release from https://builds.strawberrymusicplayer.org/macos/ where ipod support is added.
However, only the old iPod's work, like Classic 6th gen and older. Apple did lot's a things to block 3rdparty software from accessing them, so the newer ones will not work. -
@jonas thank you SO much ! it works, I can access the iPod (an old ipod mini). However I cannot copy from the iPod to the computer. Do you know how I can do this?

@jonas I just got the same error ("Strawberry was not compiled with Libgpod and so reading might be very slow and writing could not work") when connecting an ipod classic (circa 2008), but I'm using Strawberry on a linux computer (not a Mac as the original poster was):
OS: Pop!_OS 21.10 (System76's variant of Ubuntu)
Strawberry: v1.0.0 downloaded from the Pop_Shop as a flatpak with a last update release date of Oct 16, 2021Do I need a development release in order to get past this error/warning?
Thank you!

@lindsey
We got nothing to do with the flatpak, you need to report that to flatpak.
The regular releases and the PPA repository is compiled with libgpod.
