      setup info

      • music files are stored in an NVME drive that's mounted via fstab
      • the missing files are all flac
      • as an example, I have a lot (at least 50+ folders worth) of music tagged with "various artist". Only 15-20 are recognized by the app
      • I counted the number of folders in music directory and there are about 200
      • I saw some discussion that perhaps they were classified under "Unknown". I can only see U2 under the letter U. Also I was on windows11 last week and foobar2000 had no issues with the missing files/folders.

      things I tried

      • I've tried both .deb and flatpak. same results. It looks to me at a quick glance that the same various artists albums show up
      • I've tried quod libet just a test and that app has no issues seeing and playing the missing albums and with proper tags

NOTE: I was only using various artist collection as an example as that's most obvious.

Do you get a error message if you drag one of the audio files that are not picked up over from a file manager to strawberry's playlist?

I drag a folder (various artist/compilation album) not detected by Strawberry and...

          1. no errors were found/displayed
          2. I have no problem playing any of the files in the album

just a test I did a full rescan and I got this error =>

What version of strawberry are you running? If you ran version 1.1.0 or newer, the database schema is already upgraded, make sure you do not run a earlier version as the database is incompatible.
By the error message it looks like your running an earlier version which is no longer compabile with the database since songs_fts has been removed in the newer version.

              @jonas

I tried both the version available in Debian Bookwork and flatpak. I'm guessing the flatpak version is much newer.

I'll download the one from this site and see if that works better. thank you

@jonas just to clarify, are you saying previous versions will not import some music because of specific tags present in the audio file?

                if yes, which tags? thanks

Same problem as the error message, or songs missing? If you do a full re-scan, do you get any errors messages now?
