Scrobbling stops after 3 and a half minutes

When scrobbling longer songs to last.fm ive noticed that after 3 and a half minutes the "scrobbling now" status next to a song disappears.
This is problematic for me as I use active scrobbling status to update a discord lastfm rpc plugin that shows what song is playing and shares the album art to my discord profile. Having this arbitrary time cutoff means that any longer songs (most of my library) stops showing on my profile before the song ends.
Ive been able to observe this over several songs and all of them stop scrobbling after this 3 and a half minute mark.
