Something funky happened today as I was listening to music with Strawberry as usual. Suddenly playback stopped and the player's UI froze at the beginning of a new track (within the same album), had to kill the process.

Since then I'm unable to play any ape files at all, the player freezes instantly. Other audio formats play fine. I'm using Strawberry for years and was able to play those ape files many times before.

It stopped working mid-playback with no apparent change to the system, the software version or the music files.

Only Strawberry seems affacted and playback works with VLC and DeaDBeeF

Is there any way to debug this issue? All help appreciated

Might be the same issue as this: https://github.com/strawberrymusicplayer/strawberry/issues/1488

Yes, that really looks like the exact same issue. Thanks for pointing it out.

If it is caused by a bad GStreamer version, I'm still wondering why it was working first and only stopped after playing several files. There must be other criteria to reproduce this bug.

If you are using Arch, they switched to gstreamer with ffmpeg 7, which is not supported by the latest gstreamer release, there is a issue for this here: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/gstreamer/gstreamer/-/issues/3657
