thanks for the reply. it is the same in clementine and may be a holdover from amarok

when you right click on any playlist and then select "organize files" the resulting dialogue box has a check box for "mark as listened"
What does this do

@mindwurx turns out my system was not mounting the drive with library at random thus causing problems as you mentioned

recent playcounts and lastplayed data are gone as well

sometimes when i start strawberry the ratings for all tracks are gone and I must replace the db file with a previously saved copy to regain ratings.
why would this be happening
