      Sorry @jonas, missed the notification that there's activity here.

      Just tested https://builds.strawberrymusicplayer.org/macos/bigsur/strawberry-0.8.4.28.gfcd4e5ac-bigsur.dmg and it seems to work. Thanks!

      @adityasubathu

      The transfer rate from the NAS to the computer is 11 mb/sec
      The (Dell) laptop has an SSD, is an i5 and has 16Gb RAM
      Since Friday its been "Updating collection"
      Running from a terminal window, it gets to 84850 and then stops. JRiver shows there are 86998 tracks
      I can play a track if I click on the file name, but cannot create any Smart Playlists

      Don't want to keep bothering you with what seems minor problems

      I can confirm that version: 0.8.5.158.g5256d795-Qt6-x64 is unaffected and the library scan works normally!

      Thank you for your work and the quick fix!

      @silver-sun Thanks for the reply.
      I've already tried that option but it didn't do the job about the EBU. By the way, I keep it unchecked because Strawberry becomes unresponsive for 1-2 seconds when it detects changes and begins to scan.
      I'm also using the replay gain (often using the "Ex Falso" app to scan mp3s and write the replay gain tags), I just wanted to test the EBU R 128 feature out of curiosity.

      O

      Linux Mint 22 user here, also getting away from Rhythmbox. Using the GUI in Strawberry ver.1.2.3, here are some observations for using a streaming radio playlist, generally following @ben2talk .

      From a blank slate with no playlists loaded, add some streams using Playlist | Add Stream. You'll notice that the title populates with the URL.

      Click on a stream in the Title field. Here you can rename the stream to something more human using F2 or context click and select 'Edit tag "Title" ...'

      Now save the same playlist to someplace you can find them, saving these three formats:
      Christmas1.xspf (the default playlist suggested by Strawberry)
      Christmas2.pls
      Christmas3.m3u

      Open all 3 files in a text app and observe their structures. Of the 3, only Christmas2.pls properly saves the renaming changes done above. Neither the XSPF nor M3U files save the Title changes, and if you reopen those playlist types (with or without tagging them as starred Favorites), the URL repopulates the Title field and you have to do it all over again.

      The suggestions here for making changes to the M3U file work good to preserve your edits for that type of playlist. They may present differently in the GUI when compared to the sticky changes in the PLS file (you'll have to fiddle with the M3U #EXTINF and other directives to see what works best for you), but at least the work is preserved when you load the playlist. Again this all needs done by changing the M3U text file directly since the F2 GUI changes only stick for the PLS file.

      Strawberry's default XSPF is in structured XML and I haven't dug into manual solutions for that.

      As for direct modifications to the Radio tab offerings, if SQL is still the main Strawberry data backend (see @OriNOVet and this forum "Moving collection/config") there may be some opportunity. Christmas wish list to self: Dust off my rusty SQL and XML chops and look under the hood.

      +1 for SomaFM. Great stuff.

      Strawberry will scan every single file in the directory you add to the collection independent of filetype, so make sure you don't have other files than music in the directory.
      But to get an idea of what it's doing it could be useful to run it from the terminal like already suggested.

      @jonas It sounds like you are saying that the default settings of; Save album covers in album directory and use hash is broken in the case where files are not physically stored in album specific folders. If this is the case, then why bother to use a hash at all? I would have expected that whether using a hash or a pattern, whether stored in the album's (or more accurately file's) directory or located in a hidden directory in the user's home folder, that there is some database that associates a particular physical image file with a particular physical music file.

      To do otherwise creates a hidden trap for any user that may choose to store their music files in any structure other than limiting folders to only containing the files of a single album. If someone were to put all of their Goo Goo Dolls files in a folder, or all their songs from the 80's, or as I have done with some of my folders, just collections of completely unrelated music files then Strawberry's current implementation is unable to correctly handle the situation.

      thanks again for your work.

      @jonas MusicBrainz Picard has an option to "Save AcoustID fingerprints to file tags". Will SMP read/use/benefit from those saved fingerprints, or will it generate its own fingerprint instead?

      Finally caught it while running with GST_DEBUG=5. This time, I had paused the track somewhat close to its end. Unfortunately, the logging is on the insane level, so I couldn't copy it all, and I don't even know if it has anything useful. Here is the last part of it, just in case:

      I've been testing over night and this bug looks to be fixed with https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/gstreamer/gstreamer/-/merge_requests/7401 which has also been merged in GStreamer, but it missed 1.24.7 so that version is still affected.
      For openSUSE I've opened a request to add it here: https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/1195264
      And I've opened a bug report in Arch here: https://gitlab.archlinux.org/archlinux/packaging/packages/gst-plugins-base/-/issues/2 and asked if they can add the patch.
      For other Linux distros affected by this bug ask them if they can add the patch.
      You can possibly also bypass the bug by enabling cross-fading automatic (and uncheck the Except between tracks on the same album checkbox) in the backend settings of strawberry.

      They voted to the delete the article. No-one added any reliable sources and the article was stripped for content by the same guy who nominated it for deletion.
      The links on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Strawberry_(software) for "sources" points to "strawberry software", which obviously does not find much relevant for "Strawberry Music Player".
      I think there are more references available than many other music players which has a wkipedia page, but I believe this is a result of the article being named incorrectly in the first place and lacking sources, no-one actually pointed to them in the time it was up for discussion.

      BPM and initial key are used heavily by DJ's and others who need to consider how music "builds" over time.

      A few examples:

      generally DJ's want BPM (tempo) to build over time so you don't go from a "fast" song to a bit slower one...even a slight drop in tempo can cause people to leave a dance floor. DJ's doing beat mixing use BPM to find songs of similar BPMs that may then mix together well. The tonal "key" of a song can also help with mixing songs together or to create smooth transitions. People exercising or running often find they like a certain tempo for running, another for cool down, etc.

      On the second comment in the issue I linked to, I'm describing what's failing. So yes, it's not working at all. There is no need for QA before it's fixed. All you need to do to test it yourself is to enable the open CD option in the menu. I have no plans to look into the issue again which is why I have disabled it, closed the issue and listed it as not supported in the features for Windows. To fix it or look into the issue you need to at least have a Windows PC setup up with a development environment, a debugger and a CD drive which is why I sent you the guide. It's on the bottom of the my TODO list. It's simply not a priority for me considering that most users aren't using strawberry for playing CD's. There are too many others things that needs to be done.

      Windows 10 is supported by Microsoft until 2025. All the libraries we use still work with Windows 10. Binaries can be built to work on both Windows 10 and 11 so there isn't more work to support 10. A ton of users are still on Windows 10. I see no reason to drop support for Windows 10 at this point. So I don't know how you came to that conclusion.

      @apprentice
      Like I already said, report it to FreeBSD.
      Someone from the BSD community needs to maintain the sndio plugin for GStreamer.
